River daming is an critical issue all over the world

Here is Scotland we have lost great White Water kayaking rivers and rafting runs to environmentally damanging hydro dam projects; which effects tourism, the environment and general recreational physical and mental health of the nation. This is the same in most other countries where i have paddled, India, Nepal, Turkey, NZ, Canada (particularly BC), USA , main land europe and else where.

Currents – Episode 9 – Jalcomulco, Mexico

This video shows one small towns protest agains the building of the hydro Dam and also has some great kayaking footage. I have a feeling we will have to start running some trips to Mexico so if that  is something of interest to you get in touch.

By the way there are many, many better ways to produce clean, low CO2 emission power and many of those ways can actually benifit the local people where the power is produced unlike most big hydro schemes which simply destroy communities and take profits away.

We are lucky to have one of the few un-dam controlled rivers in Scotland right here in the highlands accessible for the day from Aviemore, Inverness, Aberdeen, Elgin and all the other villages here in the Highlands for great White Water [intlink id=”866″ type=”page”]Rafting[/intlink] and kayaking with Full On Adventure.
