Canoe & Whisky tour of Speyside

Canoe the River Spey through the heart of Whisky Country sampling the best highland food and world famous spirit on this active holiday.

Beginning in the Cairngorms National Park and journeying by river to the sea, you’ll taking in an abundance of cultural and natural  heritage for which the Scottish highlands as famous.

Speyside is a beautiful part of the highlands and it is seen never better than from the River Spey running through it.

This trip  which incorporates the best distillary tours and sampling appeals to people from all over the world and of all ages (over 18s only).

Our guides will lead you safely down the river, starting on easier water before running some fun rapids and learning how to control the canoes. No prior canoeing experience is required.

We provide all transport from start to finish so you can enjoy all the region has to offer with out the need to drive.

 

 

Arrival day – Fly to Edinburgh where our guide will meet you and drive you to a great hotel in the old town so you can relax and enjoy the Scottish Capital rich with culture and history.

Day 2 – Journey to the highlands.

Visit Blair Castle and grounds and the Dalwinnie Distillary.

Tastings at Dalwinnie Distillary include single malts paired with specially selected luxury highland Chocolates.

Arriving late afternoon in the Cairngorms National park and check into your excellent highland guest house.

Dine in the Old Bridge Inn a real treasure on the banks of the Spey, Great food, Local Cairngorm Brewery ales and of cause a wide range of single malts.

Day 3 – Introduction of your double Canoes or single person touring kayaks ( your choice).

Expert coaching followed a paddle from Loch Insh to Aviemore famous Mountain Cafe for lunch.

In the afternoon a gentle walk over the Cromdale hills to Glen Livert Distillary.

Second evening in your Highland Guest house. Eating at Andersons Restuarant in the highland village of Boat of Garten.

Day 4 – Ballindalloch to Knockando

Check out of your Cairngorm Guest house we are heading down stream to the heart of Whisky country and the classic sections of the river.

Paddling past Ballidalloch Castle we run the rapids, called the washing machine and knockando, that add excitement to this days paddling. Rapids are fun grade 2 and our guides will show you how to paddle them safely.

Afternoon tour of Cardhu Distillary.

Check into your hotel at Ballindalloch and enjoy it’s excellent restuarant in the evening.

Day 5 – Knockando to Aberlour

Paddle another great section of the Spey followed by perhaps the best distillary tour of the them all at Aberlour. Possibly follow this with a visit to the Copperage in Craigellachie, or relax at your hotel for the evening in Craigellachie by Aberlour. Three very different Whisky bars to experience here.

Day 6 –  Craigellechie to the Spey Bay and the sea.

This is a fantastic days paddle with constantly changing scenery, from the rolling hills of Speyside to sandstone pillars at Fochabars and then the braided sections of river, with remains of hugh Scotch Pines washed down from upstream before reaching the sea.

Spend some time relaxing at the wildlife centre and cafe at Spey Bay, we’ve seen Dolphins and Ospreys here before.

Return to Highland guest house near Aviemore with the choice of several excellent restuarants for your final evening with us.

Day 7 – Return to Edinburgh for afternoon flight out or add another evening the capitol and fly out the following day.

A single supplement of £250/ $375 will be payable should a single room be requested.
