Become a versatile guide - tackle a different white water river each day
5 Day Course | 4-8 participants
£395
£495 with self-catering accommodation
The raft guide training course is designed for people who wish to work as professional river guides. The course gives a thorough training in all aspects of raft guiding and is delivered by internationally experienced and current rafting trainers.
This course is 5 days in duration. 4 days are dedicated to Raft guiding skills. 1 day is a river rescue skills training day specific to Rafting. For the rescue day we follow the internationally recognised Syllabus of ‘Rescue 3 First Responder Course’. So you actually finish our 5 day course with 2 qualifications.
Uniquely a WWI raft guide training course gives you a skills record sheet, this is a record of skills you have learned to show to prospective employers. This is also useful for employers to demonstrate their staff do have a high level of appropriate training.
Site specific trip leader assessments are available. Our level 3 qualification is reserved for guides with a wide range of high level experience and who are able to trip lead in any rafted location. Because we recognize that there is a need for trip leaders for grade 3 and below rivers we offer outdoor centers site specific trip leader training and assessments. Contact WWI for details of site specific training and White Water Rafting technical advisory service to outdoor centres.
What ever the outcome of the course you will gain invaluable experience, get a detailed training report, skills sheet and guidance on employment opportunities.
As a qualified guide, in the UK you can expect to earn around £80-£130 per day depending on your experience, so your training course should be fully covered by around 5 days work. We can advise of employers in Scotland and abroad and give references and training reports to assist you in gaining employment. We also employ raft guides for ‘Full On Adventure’ and ‘Vertical Descents’ and have frequent request by other employers for qualified guides, so we will also be a great source of information in relation to gaining work.
One of the key reasons to choose a WWI raft guide course is that we concentrate on rafting a wide range of different rivers during the 7 days, so that you leave with the relevant experience to either guide or gain more experience where ever in the world you choose to guide. Most other courses will simply train you in one or two limited locations in order that you can work on that specific stretch of river or artificial white water course.
As your experience develops and you decide to develop your potential work opportunities as a guide, you can add on modules such as ‘Multi Rafting’, ‘Oar Rig Rafting’ and ‘Rescue Kayaking’ and WWI offer international rafting and kayaking trips lead by our internationally experienced guides if you wish to accompany us to exciting destinations such as Nepal, Canada, US, Africa etc.
We run courses in the Scottish highlands based in Aviemore and Fort William and raft rivers across the region. All the necessary equipment is provided in the cost. Your course manual, certificate, raft guide license and skills sheets are all included in the price.
For all your canoeing, kayaing and rafting equiptment needs check out Highland Canoes.
