Why does all the Snow in Aviemore make for sensational White Water Rafting?!

When stag and hen dos are deciding where to go for an adventure weekend,  it might be useful to know more about why Aviemore rates so highly as a [intlink id=”866″ type=”page”]White Water Rafting[/intlink]location.

The citys of Edinburgh and Glasgow are fun places but the Scottish cities that allow easiest access to the highlands are the best choice for outdoor adventure activities. The easiest city to fly into from London is Inverness as it is a small airport with great connections to London but only 30minutes from Aviemore or the White Water Rafting river. Aberdeen is still close enough to Raft the Findhorn in a day but you are looking at more like 1.5 hours to the river.

Unlike other rivers in Scotland the Findhorn has a natural catchment flow, so no dams just straight from the sky into the river. That means when we have lots of snow like now it builds up in the catchment area and delivers amazing spring rafting when things warm up in March-June.

The River Findhorn has a catchment area of over 1,300km2 and a stream network length of about 1,500km which feed the main river that is 90km long. We Raft 4 main sections of the river with the Upper and Top Findhorn offering thr best all day White Water Rafting, with the best Rapids in a continuous section, with no portages or carrying around things like on other sections. It also has good cliff jumps and stunning gorges if that is your bag, but when the river is pumping there is no need for any other than the White Water to make it more than exciting enough, as when high this river is phenomenal.

So you get some idea why this river has the best White Water Rafting in the UK, with a hugh catchment, lots of which is high in the mountain which get more snow than the lower ranges and then it sqeezes theough some awesome tight gorges in its powerful flow to the see.

Best time to book rafting is in Jan-February for doing it end of March to June an sometimes into July. July-August often better for Canyoning but you never know as this is a rain generated river as much as it relies on snow.

Come and find out what all the fuss is about, on a Aviemore Findhorn White Water Rafting trip.  With the Rafting pioneers Full On Adventure, the specialist White Water Rafting company in the highlands of Scotland who started the regular rafting on the Findhorn and know it better than anyone.
